Editor's Desk: The Accidental Hate ----- Original Message ----- From: William Bersey To: editors_@arrivistepress.com Sent: Thursday, February 03, 2005 8:22 PM While doing a Google search to see if the trial for one Stanley Filoma had started I came across the piece written back in Feb on your site. In the editorial the writer seems to go out of his way to make light and almost condone Mr. Filoma's actions. Let me quote part of the last paragraph "And if that wasn't enough bad Haitian karma, guess what Grabowski's father does for a living? You got it: Massachusetts State Cop. What are the odds Filoma gets a judge that considers the overturned car, the bonfires in the streets, and the debris-hurling crowd when he goes up for sentencing?" Hopefully the judge that hears this case will consider the facts, Mr. Filoma had numerous driving infractions, and had only two weeks prior had his license reinstated, Mr. Filoma was under the influence, and unlike the PEDESTRIANS who left Super Bowl parties, got behind the wheel of a Toyota Land Cruiser. Mr Filoma refused direct orders by Boston police to stop, Mr. Filoma was operating his vehicle with almost no insurance, Mr. Filoma was not even aware he had hit anyone. Oh you failed to mention the others that were hit by poor Mr. Filoma, Jason Stackiewicz was critically injured and to this day has not fully recovered, he spent weeks in a coma and will be peminately disabled. When brought to the hospital he was not expected to survive. You can not even come close to imagining what the family must have gone thru those days. And I hope that you never do despite making light of the incident. This Sunday I pray to god that no one has to have an evening like the one we had that night just one year ago, you see my son Joshua was the other victim of Mr. Filoma's misfortune, he had two skull fractures, broken bones, brain trama, and his face was unrecognisable after hitting the pavement. Yet we consider ourselves very lucky in that he has recovered 99% and this Sunday he will be home with us away from Boston and away from Mr. Filoma. My heart goes out to the Grabowski family for having gone thru what no one should have to endure, the loss of a child , and so unnecessarly. Think of them before you write something as insensitive as that piece again. Bill Bersey
