All Strung Up: The Deadstring Brothers

If you're not afraid to order your indie rock like a bust-night chowdown at a Denny's, forlorn and country fried, it's worth your time to dig up the latest from the Deadstring Brothers. Their eponymous release conjurs aural images of Cracker, and Kurt Marschke's lyrical stylings bear a certain resemblance to Karl Wallinger, of the highly underrated 80s band World Party.

There's too much twang and too little hype to hear the Brothers on a Clear Channel station any time soon, but all you hipsters who ran out to buy your retro western fashions last year would be remiss not to complement the 'tude with the appropriate soundtrack. Plus they're from Detroit, and everyone knows Detroit (White Stripes; Electric Six) is this decade's Seattle.

The only thing harder than getting over your pride and admitting you actually like the blues & bluegrass inflections of this CD is finding a place to buy it. We recommend you try their label (http://timesbeachrecords.com/) until they get their distribution worked out.
